Kaycom has provided support services for glass-iron sighting systems for fifteen years, with a focus on meeting the in-service support and customization requirements of the Canadian Forces. Over the years Kaycom has provided a wide range of related services including maintenance, repair, overhaul, logistics services, engineering investigations, and product upgrades and adaptations. Kaycom specified, constructed and operated a privately owned optical repair facility in Canada for this category of products, a business that it subsequently spun off.
During the last few years, the tempo of combat operations has increased, and their nature has also changed and continues to do so. Kaycom has seen an increase in the need for support services for optical sighting systems. In conjunction with Seiler Instrument, Kaycom continues to support systems installed on wheeled and tracked vehicles and artillery.
Seiler Instrument specializes in optical fire-control equipment and components for the U.S. military and international customers. It manufactures a wide range of periscopes, telescopes, target collimators, boresights, borescopes, gunsights, dioptometers, and other hardware. It also provides a range of support services and manufactures test equipment.
One current example of the collaboration between Kaycom and Seiler is the optical sighting system for the British Aerospace M-777 lightweight 155 mm towed howitzer. This gun is in operational service with the Canadian Forces and is also being delivered to the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. Seiler is the sole-source provider of glass-iron sights for this machine. Kaycom is managing contractor in-service support for the M-777s operated by the Canadian Forces, including customized adaptations to meet the specific operational needs of the deployed fleet in Afghanistan.
