Products and Services Preservation and cleaning

Preservation and cleaning of artillery equipment is not a glamorous activity. However, specialized, customized products, when used effectively, can save large amounts of money in restoration and repair costs over a product's lifecycle and increase the utilization of the equipment by reducing scheduled and unscheduled downtime.

Modern ammunition contains a relatively high proportion of copper, which can deposit residues in artillery barrels and small arms and create a range of problems if not efficiently and promptly removed.

Kaycom offers a foam product that is odourless, non-toxic and environmentally friendly, and designed specifically to clean artillery barrels with emphasis on removal of heavy carbon deposits, while also ensuring the effective cleaning of copper/brass deposits. It also softens plastic residues, facilitating their removal. It can be used in place of labour-intensive brushing and requires limited manpower, because it cleans the barrel unattended, and requires less elapsed time than physical cleaning. High quality results can be obtained under field conditions and associated procedures facilitate the standardization of cleaning procedures.

Foam-based products have the following additional advantages in this application:

  • Chemical reactions remove carbon, copper, and other residues,
  • The foam covers the complete barrel circumference,
  • It is easy to use, and is non-abrasive and non-corrosive,
  • It is very cost effective and requires minimal labour.
